More than half a million people were affected by the bad weather in Manila and northern provinces that have been affected by torrential monsoon rains since the weekend.

THAILAND TRANSPORT TRAIN MARKET

Several times a day, shopkeepers swiftly pack up their food stalls and pull back their canopies to let the trains pass. Once the trains have rumbled through, the crates of vegetables, fish and eggs, are heaved back into their position along the tracks and shoppers return to the tracks they use as a path through the market. Every day hundreds of tourists armed with cameras flock to the picturesque Maeklong market to witness the well-oiled routine.

The Indian rupee fell to a record low of 60.73 against the dollar on 26 June, pushed by demand for the greenback from domestic importers, withdrawal of funds by foreign investors and a slump in several Asian currencies. The rupee has depreciated by about 10 per cent between April and June, with a previous record low of 59.98 against the dollar on June 20. Analysts said the Indian currency was likely to weaken further and may hit 61 against the dollar soon. According to reports, the rupee recovered from its all-time lows by rising 32 paise to 60.40 against the dollar in early trade.
