Lifeguards from the Ocean City Beach Patrol stand on their watch station and explain to beach goers about the rough surf and how to stay clear of the strong rip tides near 9th Street in Ocean City, N.J., Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009. The guards kept the beach open permitting swimming in the immediate area of their station. The waves and surf were unusually rough as a result of Hurricane Bill that passed offshore.
