
A woman suspected of having contracted leptospirosis is accompanied by relatives, 29 October 2007, in a field hospital the Nicaraguan Army improvised to help the Health Ministry in Malpaisillo, 130 km northwest of Managua. So far nine people have died and 1,500 have been infected by leptospires bacteria, which is spread by animal's urine. Authorities said that the outbreak was probably caused by the recent floods
