A view of the "Christ the Redeemer"

The Christ the Redeemer statue on top of the Corcovado mountain is seen with a banner that reads, "Against injustice, in defense of Rio" in Rio de Janeiro November 9, 2011. The banner is part of a protest against an amendment forcing Rio de Janeiro to share its oil riches with other states that could potentially cost the state about 7 billion reais ($4 billion) a year and a cut of about 80 percent of Rio's share in future oil royalties, state officials say.

The Christ the Redeemer statue is lit up in red atop the Corcovado mountain during a World AIDS Day event in Rio de Janeiro December 1, 2011. A total of 10 monuments including Christ the Redeemer will be lit up for three days as part of an AIDS campaign.
