An Indian child writes with chalk on a slate during a lesson at a "bus-school" at a slum in the northern suburb of Malad in Mumbai on July 9, 2008. The school-operating from inside an old bus which doubles up as a clinic is one of four charitable schools run by French philanthropist Pierre Pean under the aegis of The Associaton for the French-Indian Schools of Bombay which was started in 2000. The school which is funded by donations and provides primary education started operating from the bus after the original school was demolished by civic authorities. India - a country of more than 1.1 billion people has a law under which all children between the ages of six and 14 must be given a free education.
