"historic opportunity" for peace as his people

Members of the Palestinian Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, loosely affiliated to president Mahmud Abbas's Fatah party, hold a candle-lit ceremony to mark the third anniversary of iconic leader Yasser Arafat's death in the West Bank village of Al-Yamon near Jenin city, 11 November 2007. Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas today hailed an "historic opportunity" for peace as his people marked the third anniversary of Arafat's death. The United States is expected to host an international peace meeting in Annapolis, Maryland later this year aimed at reviving the Middle East peace process after a seven-year hiatus since Arafat's last round of negotiations
