burning wooden barrel soaked

A man runs while carrying a burning wooden barrel soaked in tar during the annual Tar barrel event in Ottery St Mary, in Devon, in south-west England, 05 November 2007. The competitors, who may only enter if they born in Ottery St Mary, run for as long as they can with the burning barrels on their necks and heads until the heat either becomes too unbearable or the barrel burns to a finish. The tradition is said to have originated in the 17th century and is held on 05 November every year.
