dugout canoe, possibly more than 1,000 years old,

A large section of a dugout canoe, possibly more than 1,000 years old, rests on the bank of Lake Trafford 16 October 2007 in Immokalee, Florida. As lake levels have dropped during the on-going drought in the region, the dugout canoes long buried on the sandy edges of the lake have been exposed. It is thought by some archaeologists that the Calusa Indians, who inhabited the region, may have used the canoes. Archeologists have taken samples of the canoes in an effort to determine their ages and what kind of trees were used to make them
