More than 750 firefighters are battling the wildfire which crested the peak of Mount Charleston on Thursday, prompting the evacuation of 520 people as it began descending the east side of the mountain, about 35 miles northwest of Las Vegas. The fire is 15% contained and fire officials estimate that they won't have it fully contained until July 19.

Around 360 of 400 families living in Vitas, Tondo, known as Manila's charcoal factory, turned jobless when they were relocated in a province north of Manila after a private company took ownership of the land. These families exposed themselves to the hazardous environment of heat, fumes, dust, stench, flies and mosquitoes for decades to earn their living collecting wood and burning them into charcoal. The 15-year-old charcoal-making industry produces 6,000 sacks of charcoal monthly. Charcoal makers earn an average of 140 dollars (109 euros) per month.
